Chapter One provides an introduction to the book and addresses some of the conceptual issues underlying law and religion. These include the array of legal approaches to law and religion questions globally, the principles underlying legislation and decisions by courts in the law and religion field, and the many issues and problems that arise when a legal system or court tries to define religion.
